Elopements

Legal?

Elopements can be Legal or Non-Legal Ceremonies. Rites and Rituals Scotland are authorised by the Registrar General to conduct legal wedding ceremonies in Scotland.

What?

Your ceremony can include lots of personal touches such as having your hands fast, saying your vows on the Oathing Stone, or sharing a dram from the Quaich. Please visit here to see all our Ceremony Rituals.

Where?

From the Outer Hebrides to the beautiful Borders, your elopement ceremony can be held anywhere in Scotland... on top of a mountain, by a loch, in your garden or in a pub!

Mood?

Whether you want a ceremony that's laugh-out-loud funny or deeply heartfelt, we'll create the perfect atmosphere for your special day. Remember, each Celebrant has a unique style, so it's important to choose one who truly resonates with your vision.

Who?

If it is a legal wedding ceremony, you will need to have 2 witnesses over the age of 16 present. If it's a non-legal elopement, you do not need witnesses although you are welcome to have them.

What next?

Either visit the individual Celebrants websites and contact them from there, or send an email to hello@ritesandrituals.co.uk

Please let us know if you are drawn to any particular Celebrant.

Why Have a Scottish Elopement?

What is an Elopement Ceremony?

An Elopement Ceremony is a wedding designed for couples who wish to celebrate their love in an intimate, personal, and often spontaneous way. Unlike traditional weddings, which may involve extensive planning and large guest lists, an elopement focuses on the couple’s connection and the significance of their commitment to one another. It’s about creating a day that is truly your own, free from the pressures and expectations that often come with a conventional wedding.

Why Choose an Elopement in Scotland?

Scotland is a dream destination for couples looking to elope. With its dramatic landscapes, ancient castles, and enchanting lochs, Scotland offers a stunning backdrop for a wedding ceremony that feels both romantic and timeless. Imagine exchanging vows atop a misty Highland peak, beside a roaring waterfall, or within the walls of a historic castle. The natural beauty of Scotland creates an atmosphere that is both magical and deeply meaningful, making your elopement an unforgettable experience. Whether you prefer a legal ceremony that formalises your union or a symbolic celebration that reflects your unique bond, elopements offer the flexibility to create a day that is truly your own, free from the pressures and expectations of a conventional wedding.

Creating Intimate and Meaningful Memories

Elopements are often characterised by their intimate nature. With fewer guests or even just the two of you, every moment is filled with intention and emotion. You have the space to fully focus on each other, to take in every word and every look, and to feel the profound significance of the promises you are making. This closeness creates a powerful and unforgettable experience that stays with you long after the day is over.

Make Your Wedding Truly Your Own

Ultimately, an elopement ceremony in Scotland is about making your wedding day exactly what you want it to be—a personal, meaningful celebration of your love, set against some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. It’s about the joy of being together, the adventure of the unknown, and the freedom to start your married life in a way that feels perfectly true to you. Say “Aye do” in Scotland, and begin your journey together in a place where love and nature unite.
